The Nutcracker by the Eglevsky Ballet

Take in a show at the Tilles Center at Long Island University in Brookville. Eglevsky Ballet brings its annual production of the timeless holiday classic, The Nutcracker. The production will feature new and innovative choreography by the Eglevsky Ballet’s Director, internationally renowned artist, Maurice Brandon Curry. Laser Holidays at the Vanderbilt Museum

Laser Holidays is rated two on a five-point intensity scale, so it is appropriate for family members of all ages.The 15 songs range from “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” by Tchaikovsky and “White Christmas” with Bing Crosby, to “Winter Wonderland” with the Eurythmics and “Christmastime” with Smashing Pumpkins. Christmas Tours at Sagtikos -Myths and Legends Tour

And are other elves and gnomes around at Christmas besides those in Santa’s workshop? Come on a Sagtikos Manor Holiday House Tour and find out! The theme of this year’s Christmas celebration “Myths and Legends of Christmas”. The Manor will be decorated with each room dedicated to a Christmas myth or legend. Costumed docents will tell you about the origin and history of their room’s particular story. After the tour, visit the Manor’s popular gift shop and shop for seasonal green decoration made by our garden group. Enjoy a hot beverage and cookies around a friendly bonfire in the backyard. 21st Annual Charles Dickens Festival December 3-4, 2016

Port Jefferson Dickens FestivalThe Village of Port Jefferson will magically transform into the Dickensian era with streets filled with roaming characters such as Father Christmas, Dickens Mayor, Scrooge, the Town Crier and the beloved chimney sweeps. The events are open to the public and most attractions are free of charge, so everyone – from the very young to the young at heart can join in the fun.  The festivities will feature many returning favorites; ice skating at the Village Center, a cappella performance by choirs and harmony groups, Nutcracker performances, magic shows by The Great Wizard of the North, and many fine musical performances by area musicians. 23rd annual Holiday House Tour on Sunday, Dec. 4, 2016 12- 5

islip-hamletThe Historical Society of Islip Hamlet will be hosting its 23rd annual Holiday House Tour on Sunday, December 4, 2016 (rain, shine, snow), from 12:00 – 5:00 p.m.  Several historically and/or architecturally  interesting homes will be decorated for the holidays as tour guides in Victorian dress greet you at each home.  The reception, which is held at one of Islip’s historic churches, includes live entertainment, refreshments, a Chinese auction and a 50/50 raffle.   We will, again, be collecting toys for the USMC ‘Toys-for-Tots’ campaign.  Please donate a new, unwrapped toy.  All tickets on sale at Nook & Cranny, 469 Main St., Islip, 631/277-7600 {cash or check only};  by mail to the Society at P.O. Hicks Nurseries has comes alive during the holidays with so many activities activities for the family. Christmas Animated Story: The walk-thru story features child-sized animated Christmas characters including Santa! Admission is free but we would greatly appreciate donations of non-perishable food items for Long Island Cares. Open daily November 11th thru December 31st, during store hours Monday-Saturday 8am-9pm, Sundays 8am-8pm. Live Reindeer: Visit our live reindeer thru December 21st  during store hours Monday-Saturday 8am-9pm, Sundays 8am-8pm. Meet Santa: Meet Santa in person at Hicks Nurseries through December 23rd. Don’t forget to bring your camera! Santa’s hours are Monday-Friday 1pm-4pm & 5pm-8pm; Saturday & Sunday 10am-1pm & 2pm-6pm. Mail a Letter to Santa and Get a Response: Mail a letter to Santa in the North Pole mailbox at Hicks Nurseries and he will respond! Please include a self-addressed stamped envelope. Sands Point Preserve Holiday Tales by the Hearth-December 11

Festive music will play, Santa and Mrs. Claus will visit, and special guest readers will share favorite stories by the library’s roaring fireplace. This year, the mansion’s former billiards room will be transformed into a reading room filled with magical stories from many cultures. The summer living room will have children’s crafts, including an enormous winter mural. Hear the Wurlitzer Opus 442 Theatre Organ play. Enjoy festive refreshments. Fun for the entire family. Celebrate the pleasures of the holiday season at the Captain Albert Rogers Mansion built in 1843 by a successful whaling captain. The Greek Revival Mansion will be filled with bountiful hors d’oeuvres, sumptuous sweets and a bar. The Music Room will be filled with holiday cheer with a sing-a-long of contemporary and traditional holiday songs around a baby grand piano. The parlors and sitting rooms will be festooned with garlands of fresh winter greens and flowers. Colorful antique holiday decorations can be seen on the many trees that decorate the many reception rooms in the Mansion. The Boardwalk and City Lights at Long Beach

boardwalklightslogo.jpgBoardwalk Lights is a free holiday nautical themed light show display on the boardwalk, Park Avenue, The West End, The East End and Canal Bridges.  Families looking for a little extra holiday spirit during the holiday season are invited to stroll the area and then visit the great local restaurants and shops throughout the city. The festivities kick off in early December and will run through the winter from Long Beach Boulevard to Magnolia Boulevard. The Boardwalk Lights will be on every evening beginning at 5:00pm. Old Westbury Gardens Tree Lighting Ceremony December 3, 2016
